Why do you need a fire risk assessment?

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and the associated Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006 came into effect and replaced over 70 pieces of fire safety law.

 

Under The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and the associated Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006, 'The Responsible Person' must carry out a fire safety risk assessment and implement and maintain a fire management plan.  Failure to carry this out could result in a fine, imprisonment, or both.

The law applies to you if you are:

• Responsible for business premises

• An employer or self-employed with business premises

• Responsible for a part of a dwelling where that part is solely used for business purposes

• A charity or voluntary organisation

• A contractor with a degree of control over any premises

• Providing accommodation for paying guests

• A residential property with any communal area

You may not have the necessary competence and experience to carry out a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment that satisfies both the law and the your insurers.

We can help you meet your legal obligations by conducting a fire risk assessment at your premises.

 

After the assessment you will receive a document that contains your fire risk assessment with an action log.
